ADULT MUSIC APPRECIATION

Weekly classes aim to:
- provide a general knowledge of Music History
- explore various Genres of music
- differentiate between different eras in music
- improve aural skills (listening) and basic music Theory
- develop Improvisation skills
- include an element of fun through participation in a number of rhythmic and vocal exercises
PLUS once every 6 weeks, we invite a Guest Speaker to share and demonstrate their particular area of expertise in relation to the piano. Previous speakers include:
~ Martin Walsh: The Workings of the Piano – a fascinating exploration of INSIDE the piano, how this amazing instrument works and highlighting differences in quality between different brands of Pianos.
~ Conor Linehan: Jazz Improvisation, how to do it, a look at some of the composers work, learning where inspiration came from
~ Archie Chen: Lecture-Recital, Introducing and performing a 40 minute Programme. Sit back, relax and enjoy!
~ Lance Coburn: Exploring Romanticism through Russian Piano music
How do I enrol?
We have two levels of Adult Music Appreciation:
Adult Music Appreciation Beginner:
Monday 6:00-6:55pm or 7:00-7:55pm
and
Adult Music Appreciation Intermediate:
Monday 8:00-9:00pm
Once every 6-7 weeks, Beginner and Intermediate classes join together for our Special Guest Speaker:
Monday 7:00-8:00pm

Our Adult Music Appreciation Guest Speaker Peter Sweeney gives his amazing talk about "The Language of the Classical French Organ - An exploration of the instrument, its colours, moods and emotions."

David Adams brings his harpsichord to PAI and presents a fantastic lecture-recital on "An Introduction to Early Keyboard Music"

Our Guest Speaker Martin Walsh discusses the inner workings of the piano. Martin is our Academy Piano Technician who specializes in tuning, voicing, regulating and repairing pianos.
